But what are they? Dermatoglyphics – glyphs in short – in plain English, they’re your fingerprints or your palmprints. You probably didn’t even know you had the latter – and some of us don’t have any particular patterns within the skin ridges of our palms. What we all have are fingerprints. They’re unique – you knew that – but did you also know that there are only 8 different patterns? Three kinds of loops, peacock’s eyes, arches, whorls and tented arches and then, occasionally, there are glyphs that are ‘variants’ of these. The pattern itself is one of a kind.
These prints are formed in the womb, before even the whole hand is complete and they never change. If you believe, as many of us do, that Mother Nature does nothing without ‘reason’, then there must be a good one behind these amazing creations. Some see our glyphs as revealing our soul psychology. Another perspective is that they show our innate individuality – how we think, our way of mentally processing reality. They give a surprisingly clear insight to our talents, life-purpose and the challenges we face.
Just from knowing the patterns of your glyphs and their respective meanings you have so much more insight into what is good for you and what isn’t. Years ago, when I learned about a somewhat ‘challenging’ double loop on my left thumb, so many things suddenly became clear – my innate sense of justice, the ability to see things from both sides and an intuition that I was born with, yet didn’t dare to trust for quite a time. On the other end of the spectrum of this prints meaning is a challenge with making decisions and sticking to them. Every marking can be read on a scale – you can have certain qualities very strongly or just ever so lightly. Looking at your entire hands carefully will reveal those finer points.
How will knowing about your fingerprints benefit you? My own example – instantly, I understood that it’s ok to trust my intuition, that my sense of justice is as innate as the challenges I face about making decisions. Especially knowing the latter has enabled me to find little helpful techniques and tricks to make it easier to decide and follow through.
Another example – someone who has an arch pattern on a thumb is likely to prefer (and need) a deep connection to earthy themes – country living, working with their hands, spending time alone and with animals. They’re probably unpretentious and not keen on change. Knowing this about yourself with a deep level of certainty will help you make decisions on where and how to live and work etc. You won’t feel like the square peg in the round hole – and – making peace with the challenges you’re born with takes a huge burden of guilt, shame and blame off your shoulders. Freedom!
